La seua popularitat a Val\u00e8ncia sorg\u00ed arran un conflicte entre progressistes i conservadors, ja que estos \u00faltims consideraven les seues funcions de cuplet com un perill moral per l&#8217;erotisme que desprenien. Havia nascut a Madrid, probablement a finals de la d\u00e8cada de 1880. Provinent de fam\u00edlia d\u2019estrat popular per\u00f2 amb cert acc\u00e9s a recursos socials i educatius, va rebre formaci\u00f3 en declamaci\u00f3, escriptura i m\u00fasica; de fet, va cursar la carrera de piano al Conservatori de Madrid, una consecuci\u00f3 que el 1901 li permetria muntar una acad\u00e8mia musical a Salamanca en companyia de les seues germanes. Fons: Biblioteca Valenciana<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Sota la direcci\u00f3 d\u2019Ernesto Tecglen Berben, entre 1908 i 1911 Adela Vicente va formar part de la companyia del Royal Kursaal, un teatre popular de la capital espanyola. Despr\u00e9s de fer el salt a l\u2019actuaci\u00f3 en solitari \u2014adoptant ja el nom art\u00edstic d\u2019Adela Margot\u2014, l\u2019artista decid\u00ed iniciar una gira per <em>prov\u00edncies<\/em>. A Val\u00e8ncia la trobem per primera vegada en juliol de 1911 al teatre Apolo. A partir d\u2019octubre del mateix 1911 va marxar al Paral\u00b7lel de Barcelona, un dels epicentres de l&#8217;oci del moment. All\u00e0 va actuar al teatre Gayarre, on obtindria un \u00e8xit discret, sobretot tenint en compte la cupletista que actuava uns metres m\u00e9s enll\u00e0 en el teatre Arnau: Raquel Meller, artista en ple moment d\u2019ascens a la fama, i amb la qual seria comparada despr\u00e9s. Aleshores, Margot torn\u00e0 cap a Val\u00e8ncia, passant a actuar en el respectable teatre Apolo al popular Sal\u00f3n Novedades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tot i que a Val\u00e8ncia, a causa d&#8217;uns canvis en la recollida d&#8217;impostos, els teatres van romandre tancats entre febrer i mar\u00e7 de 1912, el retorn de Margot va anar acompanyat d\u2019un aparell medi\u00e0tic publicitari m\u00e9s contundent. Com hom sap, a Val\u00e8ncia, aquest mes est\u00e0 protagonitzat per les falles. En temps de la Margot, la durada de les falles es restringia al 18 i el 19 de mar\u00e7. La vespra, els rotatius exposaven quines eren les tem\u00e0tiques de les falles i a la nit hi tenia lloc la plant\u00e0 dels monuments; a l\u2019endem\u00e0, dia de Sant Josep, passava el jurat que atorgava els premis i era la jornada en la qual la gent visitava les falles fins a la crem\u00e0 nocturna. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De totes les falles d\u2019aquell mar\u00e7 va haver-hi una que va tindre un \u00e8xit acaparador: la falla que es va plantar a la Pla\u00e7a del Doctor Collado, titulada oficialment <em>La sicalipsis a la orden del dia<\/em>, i ben prompte coneguda com <em>La<\/em> <em>falla de la Margot<\/em>, obra de l\u2019artista faller Pere Guillem. La comissi\u00f3 fallera va anunciar que la seua falla representava un <em>music-hall<\/em>, incloent-hi una cantant, els m\u00fasics i alguns h\u00f2mens al p\u00fablic. Per\u00f2 una vegada plantat el monument, la sorpresa fou que l\u2019escenari s\u2019assemblava al Novedades, la cupletista era f\u00edsicament quasi id\u00e8ntica a Adela Margot i, segons l\u2019opini\u00f3 popular, era f\u00e0cil distingir la identitats d\u2019alguns membres del p\u00fablic contemplant els ninots. Si aquests ingredients no foren ja prou suggestius per a atraure p\u00fablic, les pressions dels conservadors \u2014que feren tapar amb roba el ninot que representava a la cupletista\u2014 i les valoracions del jurat oficial \u2014poc congruents amb l\u2019apreciaci\u00f3 popular\u2014, multiplicaren la popularitat del monument i de l\u2019artista que hi apareixia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Al llibret escrit per la comissi\u00f3 fallera tamb\u00e9 apareixien refer\u00e8ncies a la realitat al voltant de la Margot. Se l\u2019anomenava \u00abLa Changlot\u00bb i s\u2019hi descrivien tots els llocs t\u00f2pics que acompanyaven el discurs de l\u2019\u00e8poca sobre les cupletistes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\" style=\"font-size:16px\">\u00abLlechidor sofrit y amat, <br>eixa figura o ninot,<br>qu\u2019est\u00e1 dalt del entaulat, <br>representa a &#8216;La Changlot&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\" style=\"font-size:16px\">Artista de novetat, <br>es Reina entre les estrelles, <br>Y es tan fina y complasient <br>qu\u2019ense\u00f1a hasta les orelles <br>si li hu demana la chent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\" style=\"font-size:16px\">Est\u00e1 cantant el &#8216;couplet&#8217;<br>de &#8216;El platano y la guayaba&#8217;, <br>y eixe tio satisfet, mirant-la, <br>es torca la baba<br>mentre tremola de fret.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\" style=\"font-size:16px\">[&#8230;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\" style=\"font-size:16px\">Ella els mira i se sonriu<br>fentlos dos mil posturetes, <br>Y en el seu interior diu: <br>&#8216;Yo vos traur\u00e9 les pesetes, <br>per aix\u00f2 se divertiu&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\" style=\"font-size:16px\">Y els ag\u00fcelos all\u00ed van<br> una nit y un\u2019atra nit,<br> com si all\u00f3 tinguera im\u00e1n;<br> Y com tant s\u2019han divertit <br>al sen dem\u00e1 tornar\u00e1n.\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Per a aprofitar l\u2019esc\u00e0ndol faller i fer-lo seu, Margot va acudir ella mateixa a vore la falla, feu una donaci\u00f3 econ\u00f2mica a la comissi\u00f3 de la Pla\u00e7a Collado i puj\u00e0 a un dels balcons de les cases de la pla\u00e7a per a llan\u00e7ar unes paraules al p\u00fablic. La mida del rogle al voltant d\u2019ella i la gravetat dels altercats que es produ\u00efren els presents varien segons el tarann\u00e0 ideol\u00f2gic del peri\u00f2dic que narra els fets. Tant els peri\u00f2dics progressistes com els conservadors en feren refer\u00e8ncia i es mostraren a favor o en contra de la cupletista i els seus espectacles. De fet, aquests mitjans de comunicaci\u00f3 esdevingueren els seus principals valedors i publicistes. D\u2019all\u00e0, animada pels \u00e8xits obtinguts, va comen\u00e7ar un pelegrinatge que la portaria a diferents ciutats espanyoles. Tanmateix, els temps per al cuplet estaven canviant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Margot davant els canvis en el models femenins (1913-1917)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Diversos especialistes han esmentat la metamorfosi que va patir el cuplet a partir de la d\u00e8cada del 1910. Se\u2019ls considera els anys de \u00abdignificaci\u00f3 del g\u00e8nere\u00bb despr\u00e9s d&#8217;advertir que all\u00f2 que es mostrava al cuplet podia tindre poder subversiu, especialment per a les dones. Aquest fenomen feu virar els espectacles del cuplet dels espais populars cap als admesos per la cultura burgesa. Tamb\u00e9 es va promoure un model de cupletista que aglutinara algunes de les caracter\u00edstiques de \u00abdona moderna\u00bb \u2014amb un cos m\u00e9s esvelt i caracteritzat per la subtilesa en les maneres i la seducci\u00f3\u2014, sense deixar de banda la dona tradicional lligada a la cultura nacional o regional. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Margot va tractar de gestionar aquest important canvi. Tanmateix, les caracter\u00edstiques del seu cos, del seu personatge i del seu espectacle no acabaven d\u2019adequar-se a estes modes. Tot i que ella pertanyia generacionalment al grup de cupletistes en boga \u2014Pastora Imperio, La Goyita o Raquel Meller\u2014, ben prompte se\u2019n comen\u00e7aren a ressaltar les difer\u00e8ncies conceptuals. Es considerava que Margot no era <em>chic<\/em>; m\u00e9s b\u00e9, tenia reputaci\u00f3 de popular i contundent, fent \u00fas d\u2019un erotisme allunyat de tota subtilesa o puritanisme amb un cos voluptu\u00f3s. Per aix\u00f2, en les actuacions dutes a terme durant el bienni 1913 i 1915, a Margot sovint se l\u2019acusava d\u2019oferir un espectacle de \u00abmal gusto\u00bb i \u00abfunesto\u00bb.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No obstant aix\u00f2, en terres valencianes Margot va tornar recurrentment i va seguir repetint triomfs i esc\u00e0ndols. D\u2019entre totes les situacions potencialment escandaloses, el cas m\u00e9s sonat va oc\u00f3rrer a Nules (Castell\u00f3) en 1916, quan es va haver de suspendre la seua actuaci\u00f3. Segons les fonts dels diferents rotatius, Margot va arribar a l\u2019esmentada localitat en tren; a l\u2019estaci\u00f3, es va trobar amb una airada protesta de les dones del poble, les quals s\u2019oposaven a l\u2019actuaci\u00f3 de la cupletista. Finalment, malgrat la insist\u00e8ncia dels homes que volien assistir-hi a la funci\u00f3, l\u2019alcalde va suspendre l\u2019actuaci\u00f3. Nom\u00e9s un any m\u00e9s tard, aquest suposat esc\u00e0ndol s\u2019havia convertit en un sainet, titulat <em>Crem\u00e1es sinse f\u00f3c: sainete valensi\u00e1 en un acte, en vers y prosa, inspirat sobre el resibiment que li feren les dones en un poble de la provincia de Castell\u00f3 a la chenial artista de variet\u00e9s Adela Margot (escrit en el perm\u00eds de \u00e9sta) <\/em>(G\u00f3mez, 1917). En el cas de les actuacions a la ciutat de Val\u00e8ncia, sabem que alguns dels autors m\u00e9s en boga de l\u2019escena teatral popular local del moment, com foren Pere Chirivella i Josep Peris Celda, hi escriviren mon\u00f2legs de nova creaci\u00f3. De les imatges se\u2019n despr\u00e8n un posat m\u00e9s madur, la seua nomenclatura la definia ara com una <em>canzonista<\/em> i va tornar a emprar la seua vinculaci\u00f3 a Val\u00e8ncia com a reclam \u2014una operaci\u00f3 exitosa que ja hem vist que duia a terme des del 1912. All\u00e0 va continuar reciclar-se professionalment gr\u00e0cies a la seua formaci\u00f3. Aix\u00ed, a partir del 1924, va abandonar la can\u00e7\u00f3 per a presentar-se, en successives publicacions, amb qualificatius com ara \u00abilustre escritora y virtuosa profesora de piano\u00bb. Progressivament va abandonar la identificaci\u00f3 d\u2019Adela Margot per a tornar a signar com a Adela Vicente. A m\u00e9s d\u2019apar\u00e8ixer a la r\u00e0dio, sembla ser que va participar en recitals de poesia i en m\u00edtings a favor de l\u2019abolici\u00f3 de la prostituci\u00f3 en companyia de personalitats com ara Maria Lej\u00e1rraga. Finalment, es casaria amb un empresari m\u00e8dic d\u2019origen catal\u00e0 amb resid\u00e8ncia a Madrid. Les \u00faltimes not\u00edcies d&#8217;ella apareixen en l&#8217;esquela del que fou el seu marit, en 1947.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La seua mem\u00f2ria a Val\u00e8ncia fou perpetuada gr\u00e0cies a les refer\u00e8ncies a <em>La falla de la Margot<\/em> a <em>El Pueblo<\/em> i a <em>La Chala<\/em>, hereva de <em>La Traca, <\/em>durant l\u2019\u00e8poca de la Segona Rep\u00fablica espanyola.
